ABOUT

I was born in South Africa . My formative years were therefore influenced by a mixture of cultures: African, English and Dutch heritage. I added to this hybrid in my 20’s by migrating to Sydney, Australia where I currently live.

Over the years, I invested in various forms of art study including Tafe and The Julian Ashton School. In 2013, I graduated with a Fine Art Degree with Honours from The National Art School in Sydney.

My goal on starting art school was to consolidate a style. I gain pleasure from so many sources, however, like my varied cultural inputs, my style is a hybrid best embodied by the descriptive, ‘Disrupted Realism’. Renowned American author on this topic, John Seed, describes Disrupted Realism as art that has “deviated from the norms of realism”. John Seed has included me as one of the artists who represent this style in his 2023 book “More Disruption”. Other publications include the cover of a Schiffer publication Catalogue.

By disrupting traditional ideas of realism and incorporating unexpected elements, I hope to transport viewers to a realm where reality intertwines with the mysterious and fantastical. This tension between the known and the unfamiliar, is a place where I retreat to explore a sense of wonder, curiosity, and a renewed appreciation for the intricacies of the world around us.
